Hard to believe that we’re well into the summer season. Settling back in after the Studio Tour, found the blueberries coming along nicely up here on the mountain. The traffic trickled in all weekend, with many of the visitors being folks with whom we were already acquainted. It’s always great to see the rare breed who make repeated trips out to see the pottery. I had five examples of a new form I had made in the last firing and all five went home with someone, it was nice to see that others liked the new vase as much as I had hoped they might.
I hope to get back into the studio before too long, but as usual there is a long list of catch up to do which is overwhelming the studio demands at the moment. The next few weeks will bring some kiln building projects, as well as an exciting and ceramic related website project…stay tuned for more details.

Friday 12:00-4:00
Saturday and Sunday 10:00-6:00
[Click here for a map and more info!]
The big weekend is here! It’s the Toe River Arts Council Studio Tour, of course. Over one hundred craft studios to visit in the mountains of Western North Carolina, and out on the outskirts of Bakersville you’ll find two potters for the price of one. I’ve set up my wood and soda fired work alongside the soda fired work of Joy Tanner at her studio. Here’as a little sneak peak of the gallery set-up, but it doesn’t do it justice. You’ll just have to come out and see for yourself. There is even pile of ’seconds’ so you can find those discounted pots that need a good home.

Back from the trip over the mountain and across the state line. The sale was not as exciting as we had hoped, but it brought us right by Great Smoky Mountains National Park which was a great excuse to hike around a bit. We happened upon some great places, took some photos while rockhopping in the Little River, and managed to stumble right into peak season for Synchronous Fireflies of all things.
Finishing up for the studio tour this weekend, getting ready for the crowds and putting out the ’seconds.’
